The Archipelago City ATLAS

(samples)

Urban regeneration Strategies for Grand Paris.
This atlas tells the story of Paris as an archipelago city composed of various urban islands moored around the Seine. The objective is to explore urban fragmentation and polarization through the analysis of nine specific islands chosen according to their function - collective housing, parking, shopping, single-family housing, transportation and warehouses. Site selection was guided by proximity to proposed stations to be built along new transportation lines, included in the Grand Paris master plan. Each site analysis seeks to highlight existing discontinuities - spatial, functional, social, economic, political - and investigate regeneration strategies and scenarios that renegotiate the diffuse geography of the contemporary metropolis as a sustainable archipelago city.

Here are some works I have done before, just for sharing idea!

Bagnolet Playscape Project

This project focus on the suburb of Paris, the city was called "Bagnolet". Because of the huge highway seperates the north and south part of city. Also because of the low-income problem cause some housing and public spaces problem.

"Bagnolet Playscape" this project is trying to analyse the overall problems, from social aspect to urban space aspect. The first mission is to connecting people. And the second issue is trying to improve and reuse these under-use spaces. Moreover, creating more interesting spaces for people who live here.

This project mainly foucus on five point, including swimming pool under highway, arena sport space...etc.

The project also gets highly evaluation from local government representers.

Single-family housing problem
in Nanterre

This project focusing in single-family housing problem in Nanterre, one of Paris’ suburbs.
The new dynamic of the cities (based on concepts like devel- opment, densification, sustainability and efficiency) is creat- ing a fast process of high-rise building constructions.
This new dynamic of high-rise buildings with- out good green areas, and playgrounds, also comes with aspects such as bad illumination, bad ventila- tion, problems of spaces, etc. Which create a yearn- ing for the older model of housing, also known as single-family housing. This model feeds the owners’ mental image of better quality of spaces and life.
This global process is finding an increase of popularity in France along with the development of projects such as La Defense and the new urbanistic proposal of the Grand Paris. We wish to give you a clear general vision, of the current sitiuation for the single-family housing (pavillon)
